Speaking following the announcement of the 23 players selected for France’s matches against Greece and Gibralter, France manager Didier Deschamps was posed a question on whether 2018 World Cup winner N’Golo Kanté still has a chance of being selected for the France national team. The following was transcribed live by Get French Football News.

“I haven’t changed my position on Kanté. The option after the World Cup is to give playing time to those who are there. Warren is one of them. Kanté plays frequently; they have games every three or four days. I’m giving myself a bit of time. I don’t know what my situation will be in May before the Euros. I still consider Kanté eligible for selection. But in the meantime, the option is to season those who have less experience. Kanté is used to major competitions, as is Pogba. Anything (the youngsters) can learn before then will be better before the final list.”

This comes after Deschamps selected 17-year-old Warren Zaïre-Emery as a midfielder, following a stellar start to the season as a key part of Luis Enrique’s midfield at Paris Saint-Germain. Zaïre-Emery would become the youngest France international since the second world war, if he plays a part against Grece or Gibralter during the international break.
