Former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo scored the opener from the spot on 65 minutes before former Swansea City striker Andre Ayew equalised on 73 minutes.

Goals from Joao Felix and Rafael Leao on 78 minutes and 80 minutes respectively put Portugal back in control but Osman Bukari pulled another one back for Ghana on 89 minutes to set up a nervy finale.

And, after a remarkable last-gasp moment involving goalkeeper Diogo Costa and Inaki Williams, the whistle finally blew to ensure victory for our City trio.

The day’s earlier game in Group H saw a 0-0 draw between Uruguay and South Korea.

Portugal’s next game sees them face Uruguay on Monday 28 November, with a 19:00 (UK time) kick-off at Lusail Stadium.

It’s a rerun of the Round of 16 encounter between the sides at the last World Cup, in 2018, a knockout game that Uruguay won 2-1.
