Stefano Pioli said goodbye to AC Milan last night and it was indeed an emotional evening at San Siro. However, now the management will have to find a replacement and it seems the official statement is just a matter of time, a report claims.

After nearly five years at the club, Pioli’s tenure has come to an end as confirmed on Friday morning. Along with Olivier Giroud and Simon Kjaer, he was celebrated on the pitch after the 3-3 draw against Salernitana, receiving the love and praise of the fans.

Speaking live on Sky Italia last night, as cited by MilanNews, Gianluca Di Marzio provided an update on Pioli’s replacement. Paulo Fonseca is the chosen one and the official statement is now only a matter of time.

“There hasn’t been a contract termination with Pioli. If something doesn’t happen in the next few days, he will remain under contract until he finds another team. Fonseca’s contract with Lille is expiring, he rejected an offer from Marseille for three years, which was heftier than Milan’s offer.

“After the team returns from Australia, the official announcement will take place in early June even if he will only be able to arrive in Italy in early July due to tax reasons. However, these are formalities: Fonseca has been chosen.

“Milan had chosen Lopetegui, he was the one with whom they had made the most progress. But he was so disliked by the fans that the club made some assessments. Conceiçao was proposed by his agent, while Fonseca was plan B after Lopetegui,” he stated.

Milan will take on Roma in a friendly next Friday and Daniele Bonera is expected to be the head coach for that one. Once a first-team manager has been hired, he will shift focus to the U23 project.
