AC Milan must get back on track against Genoa tonight by not only winning but showing a performance like what they did through the first 12 games of the league season.

Milan were sitting well before the international break having won 10 of their first 12 Serie A fixtures to put them joint-top of the table along with Napoli but since then they have lost back-to-back games against Fiorentina and Sassuolo which has put them three points behind Napoli and the gap to Inter has been cut from seven points to one.

The defensive record has been particularly worrying as the Rossoneri have conceded seven goals across their last two league games, something they haven’t done in consecutive fixtures since 1998 when they let in the same amount in defeats against Inter and Juventus.

Gianluca Di Marzio spoke to Sky Italia about Milan’s performance in the recent defeat against the Neroverdi and about the upcoming match against Genoa tonight.

“Against Sassuolo, Milan deserved to lose, they found a difficult team to face and their opponents played better,” he said (via MilanNews).

“I don’t know whether the defeat was the result of excessive commitment or the victory in Madrid where Milan pulled out something superlative to stay in the Champions League. The match against Genoa comes at the right time to really understand the consistency of Milan, especially away from home.”
