Paolo Di Canio saw ‘defensive disasters’ in a spectacular 4-4 draw between Inter and Juventus but was happy that ‘show prevailed’ at San Siro on Sunday.

The former Juventus striker, now a Sky Sport Italia pundit, shared his thoughts on last night’s formidable 4-4 draw between the Bianconeri and Inter.

“Typically, we would have discussed the defensive disasters with wrong individual decisions and poor collective performances, but the show prevailed,” he said, as quoted by Tuttosport.

“Tactically, Motta only made correct decisions. He dropped McKennie and Locatelli and pushed Fagioli higher up the pitch. By doing so, he had the technical quality to play vertically on Vlahovic once they recovered the ball. And when Inter beat their pressing, he had two reliable players in front of the defence, rather than Fagioli, who often struggles in that position.”

Di Canio feels Juventus must see the glass half full after last night’s draw.

The Bianconeri recovered from two goals down in the second half thanks to a Kenan Yildiz brace, who had been introduced as a substitute from the bench.

“Things were going well, but we saw many counter-attacks when the game was unlocked. Inter could have killed off the game, but I liked Juventus’ character and desire,” said Di Canio.

“The Juventus DNA emerged, and they looked like a ready-made team in terms of mentality.

“As for Inter, it almost feels like a defeat if this team want to defend the title,” the former striker continued.

Piotr Zielinski replaced the injured Hakan Calhanoglu as Inter’s deep-lying playmaker. The Poland international scored a brace from the spot, but Di Canio feels the Nerazzurri still missed Calha.

“He’s a different player from the others. He dictates tempo, makes clean passes, and helps in defence, even if these numbers have worsened this season, also with him on the pitch,” the ex-Juventus striker concluded.

Inter’s next Serie A game is on Wednesday against Empoli at the Stadio Castellani, while Juventus will host Parma in Turin on the same day.
