The new boss of Deutsche-Fussball Liga (DFL) Donata Hopfen has revealed recently for the German press that they are considering to move the venues for the match competitions in Germany to Saudi Arabia.
As ‘Supercoppa Italiana’ and ‘Supercopa de España’ are being played in Saudi Arabia for quite some time now, it looks like this could also become a trend for those in Germany.
DFL’s boss Donata Hopfen, in an interview for “BILD am Sonntag” (via kicker) reveals that it is quite possible that Bundesliga play offs and the German Supercup could be played in Saudi Arabian venues.
“I don’t want to rule out anything at the moment”, she said, and that “it is important to focus on the fans again”.
Whether it is possible to host the play offs and the German Supercup in Saudi Arabia, Hopfner claimed:
“Every step that is supposed to bring us money in the future has to suit us.”
“But I think we can’t rule out anything in this regard at the moment”
Needless to say, the DFB boss doesn’t seem too pleased with the Bundesliga’s lack of competition, which saw Bayern Munich win 10 league titles in a row, but nevertheless, she acknowledges the dominance of Bayern.
“Of course, the league would be more attractive if it had competition.”
“But we must not forget that Bayern Munich have also done a super job in the recent years.”
