DFB to hold crisis meeting following Germany’s World Cup exit | OneFootball

Prior to Germany’s flight back to Frankfurt, DFB President Bernd Neuendorf announced that he would meet with Hansi Flick and Oliver Bierhoff in a scheduled meeting next week. DFB vice-president, Borussia Dortmund’s Hans-Joachim Watzke, would also be present.

“You can imagine that yesterday was a major disappointment for us,” said Neuendorf, via Kicker. “Retirement hurts a lot. We still have to look ahead. We will therefore initiate an orderly process on how to deal with this situation.”

Neuendorf confirmed that there would not be a quick and reactionary decision to Germany’s elimination from the World Cup. Prior to Germany’s exit, Flick stated that he had no plans to resign in the event that they would be eliminated. But speaking after the Costa Rica game, Flick further added: “We’ll work that out quickly, it’s difficult to answer now right after the game when we’re eliminated. We’ll see about that very soon.”

Per Kicker’s report, at the centre of criticism if Bierhoff, who acts as DFB director for the national teams and academy. Under the former striker, Germany also endured a disappointing Euro 2020 campaign following their elimination to eventual runners-up, England.

“I’ve been here for 18 years,” Bierhoff told reporters in the mixed zone. “Of course I know that the mechanism is starting now, that the discussion is taking place.”

Ahead of Euro 2024, which is being hosted by Germany, the DFB has big decisions to make.
