Development shared in Nottingham Forest’s transfer pursuit of defender

Nottingham Forest are a ‘long way off’ Boavista’s valuation for Reggie Cannon.

The right-back has emerged as a target for Chris Hughton as he looks to strengthen that area of the pitch before the transfer deadline, with reports confirming that the Reds had made contact with the Portuguese outfit for the player.

However, it appears that Forest’s valuation of the USA international is way apart from the Primeira Liga side, with journalist Will Unwin providing an update on the situation this morning.

Nottingham Forest are very interested in signing Reggie Cannon but are a long way off matching Boavista’s valuation of the defender, I am told.”

It’s unclear what sort of fee the East Midlands outfit would be prepared to pay to bring Cannon in, although with his deal at Boavista running until the summer of 2025, they are not in a position where they need to cash in.

As it stands, Hughton has Jordi Osei-Tutu and Jordan Gabriel as options for the right-back position, but the latter has been linked with a move away in the window.

Were each of these 20 former Nottingham Forest players left or right footed?

The verdict

This is a shame for Forest fans as Cannon would have been an excellent addition. He is a quick, attack-minded full-back who has experience in a decent league and playing for his country.

When you take into account that he is still pretty young, it’s a signing that would tick many boxes and it would be a coup for the Reds.

So, this update isn’t what fans would’ve wanted to hear. However, it’s no surprise that Boavista are holding out for a decent fee given Cannon’s ability, and it will be interesting to see how this plays out by the end of the month.
