Despite so much interest, Mason Greenwood wants to return to Getafe next season

Manchester United ended a dismal season on a high by lifting the FA Cup trophy last Saturday but the win can hardly mask the fact that the club requires urgent reinforcements ahead of the new season.

However, after years of poor investment under the Glazers, the club is grappling with PSR issues and new co-owners INEOS will need to focus on moving players on first before thinking about recruitment.

A couple of first-team stars like Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial have already announced their departure while quite a few loaned out players are also likely to depart with Alvaro Fernandez sealing a permanent exit to Benfica.

Mason Greenwood’s future has been the subject of much conjecture recently with reports linking him with a move to Atletico Madrid, Napoli and even Lazio.

Greenwood’s uncertain future

United are eyeing a permanent exit and Diego Simeone’s side are ready to offer former Golden Boy award winner Joao Felix as part of a proposed swap deal.

The United academy graduate’s displays on loan for Getafe saw him win the club’s Player of the Year award and he penned an emotional note upon the expiration of his loan deal.

Despite interest from so many of Europe’s elite sides, TeamTalk have revealed that the England international wants a return to the Madrid-based club.

After a difficult few years in Manchester, the 22-year-old is grateful to Getafe for believing in him and providing him the opportunities.

José Bordalás’ team would prefer another loan arrangement as they cannot hope to match the Red Devils’ asking price but INEOS would prefer a permanent arrangement.

“Mason Greenwood wants to return to Getafe next season after he recently played his last game as a loan player for the LaLiga outfit, TEAMtalk can reveal.

Greenwood wants Getafe stay

“The likes of Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Napoli are currently in the mix for the signature of a player who will reportedly command a £40 million transfer fee. But Getafe remain interested in keeping him, no matter how hard it might be for them to drum up those funds.

“That potential move could be made easier by the fact that Greenwood wants to go back to the LaLiga outfit, who took him in this term. Indeed, TEAMtalk sources have revealed the United winger is keen to stay with the club.

“Following the emotional call by the winger on his desire to return to Getafe, they are in talks with United in attempts to secure his services again. Talks are regarding another loan but United hoping to make a fee from the winger, given his contract is up at Old Trafford next summer.”

There were reports that United were willing to bring back Greenwood if a suitable bid does not arrive before June 30. With no resolution in sight currently, it looks like this saga is expected to rumble on for now.
