Leeds United have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Weston McKennie, agreeing personal terms with the Juventus midfielder.

Matteo Moretto reported on Tuesday that Leeds United want to sign Weston McKennie of Juventus, amid links to Arsenal.

Fabrizio Romano then broke the news that McKennie had accepted Leeds United’s contract offer, with personal terms not an issue. It’s now down to Juventus and Leeds to agree a deal.

The two clubs are still in discussions to figure out how to proceed with a potential transfer at this stage.

Correire dello Sport report that McKennie also had interest from Bournemouth, Aston Villa, and Fulham, but he turned those moves down as he didn’t consider them high-profile destinations.

The reason Leeds United didn’t end up in the same boat is their coach Jesse Marsch and players Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson, giving them a U.S. connection.

CdS report that Arsenal’s approach would be the most likely to succeed, but only if their initial enquiry develops into a concrete move for the player. That hasn’t happened yet.

Italian outlet Gazzetta.it reported earlier this week that Arsenal were on McKennie’s case.

Juventus are willing to negotiate for offers between €20m and €25m, plus bonuses, and enquiries have started to come in.

The Premier League is reportedly his most likely destination, so league leaders Arsenal entering the fray could certainly turn his head.

McKennie has made 21 appearances for Juventus this season, scoring three goals and assisting two from midfield.

As well as being a Serie A regular, McKennie also plays for the U.S. Men’s National Team, making 41 appearances and scoring nine goals for his national side. He started every game for the team at the World Cup.
