In the first UEFA Youth League match in the club’s history, the Eintracht Frankfurt U19s earned a point in a 1-1 draw with Sporting CP.

European competition was in the air at the Sportpark Dreieich when the UEFA Youth League anthem rang out through the loudspeakers shortly before midday. Head coach Damir Agovic selected four players from his U19 team and seven from the U21s in his starting line-up, with four U17 players also in the squad.

The visitors from Portugal took the lead on 10 minutes through Rodrigo Ribeiro, but Eintracht rallied and were clearly the dominant team in the second half. Gianluca Schäfer eventually hit the deserved equaliser in the 62nd minute. Damir Agovic, Eintracht Frankfurt U19 coach: “We’re satisfied with the result, although with a bit of luck we could’ve grabbed a win. I’m very proud of the boys’ performance, they did really well. The Youth League is a special competition and an event in itself.”
