The Champions League quarter-final clash in Catalonia this evening was flipped on its head after half an hour as Ronald Araújo was sent off for Barcelona.
It was the perfect start for Xavi’s men when they went 1-0 up, 4-2 on aggregate thanks to an early Raphinha strike but that good work was somewhat undone when Araújo pulled down Bradley Barcola from behind before being given his marching orders.
A devastated Ronald Araujo watches from the sidelines after getting shown a red card against PSG 🟥💔–
Araújo made history, albeit not very positive history, in the process, as it was earliest red-card a Barcelona player has received in a Champions League match.
On top of that, he was the first player to receive a red card in a knockout stage match since Arturo Vidal got sent off against Napoli on 25 February 2020.
It did not take long for PSG to take advantage, as Ousmane Dembélé punished his former team by lashing a cross into the roof of the net, cutting Barça’s lead to just one in the tie.
