France coach Didier Deschamps has challenged the world champions to win in Kazakhstan on Sunday after the disappointing home draw with Ukraine.

Les Bleus kicked off qualifying for the 2022 World Cup with a 1-1 home draw with Ukraine on Wednesday evening and Deschamps is aware of the character of the challenge facing his squad in Kazakhstan.

Deschamps said: "Even if we had managed a better result against Ukraine, we would still have had the same obligations against a side that has nothing to lose. It's up to us to do the job, and we are obliged to get the result. The pressure was even greater in the Euro qualifiers when we went to Andorra just after having lost to Turkey, again playing on a synthetic pitch. In recent matches, Kazakhstan have been solid and they've not conceded many goals."

While midfielder N'Golo Kanté misses out through injury, Deschamps is set to rotate his squad: "I had already planned to make changes and that's why I selected an enlarged squad. It's impossible to play three games in eight days with the same eleven each time. I will only decide on the day of the match what my eleven will be as I need to get the thoughts of the players after our last training session, and the opinions of the medical staff."
