France manager Didier Deschamps has suggested that Olivier Giroud should consider leaving Chelsea in search of regular first-team football.

Giroud has started just once in the Premier League so far this season, with youngster Tammy Abraham having established himself as the club’s first-choice forward under new manager Frank Lampard in the opening weeks of the new campaign.

The 33-year-old scored twice for France during the recent international break and will hope to feature for the world champions at next summer’s European Championship.

Deschamps has suggested, though, that the veteran should consider a January exit from Stamford Bridge should he continue to suffer from a lack of minutes at Chelsea.

“You know, Olivier suffers his situation. Before January, nothing will move,” Deschamps told a press conference.

“After, it will be up to him to see. I hope he will have more playing time.

“But we cannot take away his goals, his good performances. He scores, he makes others play well.

“He knows he is under pressure, but he always responds.”
