Ahead of their derby against Sparta Rotterdam this coming weekend, a significant number of players were absent from Feyenoord’s open training session on Wednesday.

A total of nine players missed Robin van Persie’s training session. The absences of Feyenoord full-backs Gijs Smal and Jordan Lotomba, and midfielder In-Beom Hwang, were particularly striking. Lotomba and Hwang both started in the away match against Excelsior (1-2).

The absences of departing players Calvin Stengs and Antef Tsoungui were already expected. Stengs is finalising his transfer to Pisa, while Tsoungui is leaving for Estoril-Praia in Portugal. Argentinian duo Ezequiel Bullaude and Julian Carranza were also absent. They are now free to look for another club.

Givairo Read and Jakub Moder were absent due to injury. The Rotterdam derby against Sparta kicks off this coming Sunday at 1:30 PM BST.
