As James Bond once said: “Before setting off on revenge, you first dig two graves.”
Earlier this season, English football was rocked by the so-called ‘Spygate’ scandal, in which Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa was found to have sent a member of staff to spy on Derby County’s training sessions before the two sides met in the Championship.
But on Wednesday night, Frank Lampard’s Rams finally got their long-awaited revenge when they crushed Leeds’ dreams of promotion back to the Premier League with a thrilling play-off semi-final victory at Elland Road.
Remarkably, it was the first time a team has ever reached the Championship play-off final after losing the first leg at home.
And at full-time, Derby’s players celebrated with the visiting supporters with a cheeky nod to old ‘Spygate’.
