Derby day delight as Juve defeat Torino

The Derby della Mole is, once again, won by the team in black and white. Juventus won the derby against Torino thanks to a goal in either half at the Allianz Stadium on Matchday twelve of the Serie A season. The match was decided by goals from Timothy Weah in the first half and Kenan Yildiz in the second.

THE OPENING EXCHANGES

Under the night sky in Turin, the Derby della Mole started slowly as both teams tried to settle into their rhythm. However, from the first whistle it was Juventus who posed the biggest threat. There were two potential scoring chances in the opening stages: the first came from a Khephren Thuram's break down the left flank that didn't materialise into a clear chance, before the second opportunity came from Teun Koopmeiners who found Dusan Vlahovic in the penalty area, but he was denied at the last second.

CAMBIASO BREAKS THROUGH AND WEAH SUPPLIES THE FINISH

Juve broke the deadlock in the 18th minute as Andrea Cambiaso drove excellently with the ball, having started inside his own half, before firing a shot on goal that was parried by Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, but only as far as Timothy Weah who was in the right place at the right time to give the Bianconeri the lead. Thiago Motta's side gained even more momentum and came very close to doubling the lead on several occasions: first Cambiaso tried his luck from outside the area, then twice Koopmeiners saw his precise left-footed shots denied by the Torino defence and, finally, Vlahovic saw his effort once again blocked.

YILDIZ AND CAMBIASO DOWN THE LEFT

The second half began in the same vein as the first, but with Torino more compact than they had been in the closing stages of the first period. There were no clear-cut chances at either end, with the Bianconeri carefully controlling theur advantage and the Torino attack posing little threat to Mattia Perin’s goal. What delighted the fans were the performances of Yildiz and Cambiaso, who both put in excellent displays on the left, causing many problems for their opponents at both ends of the pitch.

CONCEICAO CREATES AND YILDIZ MAKES IT 2-0

Juventus found the net again in the 72nd minute, again through Weah who was perfectly set up by Koopmeiners, but, in controlling the ball, the American saw it bounce off his wrist and ruled out. The Bianconeri made a change ten minutes later and Juventus' MVP of the month for October, Francisco Conceicao immediately went close to making it 2-0 with a splendid left-footed effort from outside the area that grazed the post to Milinkovic-Savic's right. The Torino defence were left helpless when, in the 85th minute, the Portuguese winger crossed the ball onto the head of Yildiz, who doubled the Bianconeri's lead and celebrated by sticking his tongue out, an unmistakable reference to his idol Alessandro Del Piero. Kenan's goal was the icing on the cake in this evening of celebrating victory in the Derby della Mole, during which there was also time for chants from the entire Allianz Stadium for Del Piero, who turns fifty today.
