Derby County have submitted a loan proposal to take on Brighton & Hove Albion defender Haydon Roberts ahead of the new campaign, as per a report form Football Insider.
The Rams, who have been busy since the completion of their takeover and the interim appointment of Liam Rosenior, will be eyeing up an immediate return to the Championship.
Adding real quality to the squad in the permanent additions of the likes of Conor Hourihane, Tom Barkhuizen, David McGoldrick and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Derby are now looking to bolster their defensive options.
Enjoying a productive loan spell with Rochdale back during the 2020/21 League One season, the left-sided centre-back, who can also operate as a full-back or as a holding midfielder featured 25 times in the league.

Last season, Roberts spent the majority of the first half of the campaign in Brighton’s Premier League squad, before playing out what remained with the club’s U23s.
The verdict
An exciting prospect who has shown that he is more than competent in a League One setting, this could be an excellent move for the young defender.
The last left-footed centre-back who Derby signed on loan from Brighton proved to be an excellent addition, with Matt Clarke thriving at Pride Park.
A composed and technically gifted central defender, Roberts is also an athletic and dominant defender who will tick a lot of boxes for Rosenior.
It remains to be seen if Brighton sanction Roberts’ loan departure this summer, and what level they deem best for his development, however, Clarke’s return from West Brom is likely to drop him down the pecking order in a first-team sense.
