Derby County have seen a loan offer for Hull full-back Cody Drameh rejected.
Hull City have rejected a loan offer from Derby County for defender Cody Drameh.
According to journalist Pete O’Rourke reporting via X on Saturday, the Tigers have been approached by Derby regarding a potential loan deal for the full-back, but opted to turn down the Rams’ offer.
It is also rumoured by FootMercato that French sides Toulouse and Stade de Reims are also keen on acquiring Drameh’s services this summer.
After pulling off the seemingly impossible task of keeping Derby County in the Championship, John Eustace is looking to build a competitive squad for next season, and has seemingly targeted the Hull City full-back.
O'Rourke has revealed that Hull have rejected a loan approach from Derby for the full-back, with it being unclear at this stage whether the Rams will return with another offer.
Drameh has previously played underneath Eustace at Birmingham City and clearly left a good impression, with the Derby boss now vying for his signature this summer.
The 23-year-old featured 28 times in the Championship for the Tigers last season, but his performances have divided City fans this season, with Hull only remaining in the division on goal difference.
Drameh has only been at the MKM Stadium for a year, after joining Hull following the expiration of his contract at Leeds United.
Despite his three-year deal, Derby have sniffed an opportunity to secure his services for next season, but have seen their attempts rebuffed by the Tigers.
Following Ruben Selles’ dismissal, it is yet to be seen whether Hull’s new boss sees Drameh in their plans for the future, leaving the player’s future in the air.
The versatile full-back was seen as one of England’s leading defensive prospects just a few years ago, touted to earn a place in Leeds United’s first team after emerging through their youth ranks.
A brilliant loan spell with Luton Town was followed by a less impressive stint at Birmingham City, with Drameh part of the Blues’ side that were relegated to League One at the end of the 2023/24 season.
The defender actually turned down a new deal at Leeds last summer before moving to Hull, and his mixed performances suggests he may have lost his way slightly over the last season with the Tigers.
Selles even admitted last month that he knew it had been "difficult" for Drameh, due to him being in and out of the team since he was hired.
Eustace expressing an interest in the 23-year-old highlights the fact that the manager believes Drameh’s poor form is simply a blip, and he still has what it takes to fulfil his potential.
A chance at regular football under a manager who has proven to be excellent at extracting the most out of his players could be a tempting prospect for Drameh, and he may eventually push for a move.
However, for now, the Tigers have made their stance clear, and don’t want to lose their asset to a Championship rival this summer.
