Derby County are set to see off competition from both Championship and League One clubs to do a deal for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harvey White.

That is according to Football Insider, who report that the Rams have agreed a deal to sign the 21-year-old from the North London side.

White is set to join Derby on loan for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign, with the player heading to the Midlands for a medical and to complete formalities.

As above, the Rams saw off a number of clubs as they look to get this over the line.

According to the above report, Championship sides West Brom and Luton made late advances over a loan deal, as did League One clubs Oxford United and Barnsley.

Derby, though, are said to have provided Spurs with the “most compelling offer”.

At 21, White has racked up a big number of appearances for both Spurs under-18, under-19 UEFA, and under-21 sides.

WAYNE ROONEY

YES NO

He did, however, spend a period out on loan in League One with Portsmouth back in 2020/21.

During that second half of the season at Fratton Park, White featured regularly, racking up 21 League One appearances for the club, but struggling to establish himself as a starter.

The Verdict

This seems like a brilliant deal for Derby County if they can get it over the line and confirmed.

It has to be considered as such given the sheer level of competition they have beat off for his signature.

West Brom and Luton are both have very realistic play-off ambitions in the Championship this campaign, so it says a lot that Spurs see Pride Park as a better place for his development.

Having struggled to do so at Pompey in 2020/21, the ambition for this short spell for White is to surely go and establish himself as a regular starter in the third tier.
