Derby County’s promising defender Archie Brown is looking likely to secure an exit from the Rams this summer with Swiss side FC Lausanne-Sport set to be his next destination, according to Le Matin.

Brown has been offered a new deal by Derby this summer as the Rams aim to secure the defender’s long-term future at the club. That comes after he has managed to deliver some impressive performances for the club’s under-23s in the last year and he made 18 appearances in Premier League 2 last term in which he provided four assists.

The 19-year-old is another promising player that is emerging from the Rams’ academy that has already seen the likes of Jason Knight, Max Bird and Louie Sibley burst through and have an impact on the first-team in the last two seasons.

However, according to the latest report from Le Martin, Derby are set to lose the defender despite wanting to keep hold of him this summer. That comes with it being expected that he has turned down the offer of a new deal with the Rams and will instead join Swiss side FC Lausanne-Sport.

The verdict

This is a major potential blow for the Rams and it will be a concern that they look set to lose one of the most promising younger players from their academy before he has had the chance to make the breakthrough into the first-team. It will be interesting to see if this move turns out to happen and how much compensation Derby will get if he does depart.

It would certainly be a very exciting potential move for Brown to make at this stage in his career. The 19-year-old would be able to experience first-team football in a new league and also would be likely to play a key part in FC Lausanne-Sport’s side if they are trying this hard to secure his signature.

This move might be an excellent way for the defender to kick start his career and Derby might look back on this as a player that really slipped out of their grasp if he goes on to enjoy a successful spell in Switzerland.
