Derby County are said to be giving Jack Wilshere the chance to impress them in training at present as the midfielder looks for a new club, as per a recent report by The Times.

The 29-year-old former England international is currently without a club after leaving Bournemouth this summer and could well be a player that the Rams turn to as they desperately look to add depth to their thread bare squad.

Wilshere has seen his career fall short of expectations after making the breakthrough at Arsenal and has since taken in uninspiring spells with both the Cherries and West Ham in recent years, with his progress being largely disrupted by several bad injuries.

He played just 17 times for Bournemouth last season and would surely be open to signing for a club where he will be a regular starter.

The Rams are yet to have made a summer signing, with there being plenty of uncertainty over what sort of transfer business that they can conduct due to the ongoing embargo situation.

The Verdict

I think this would be a very risky bit of business from Derby if they did indeed choose to offer Wilshere a contract, as he is likely to demand high wages at this stage of his career.

There’s no doubting that he has bundles of talent but the main worry will be his previous issues with injuries, that have largely tarnished what should have been a brilliant career.

Of course the Rams need players but it would be fair to assume that Wayne Rooney will be looking to be careful when selecting which free agents he wants to sign this summer due to the limited resources that he has at his disposal.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they did sign Wilshere up, but at the same time it is a deal which could work out well or end up being a disaster in my eyes.
