Derby County are eyeing a move potentially worth £1.5 million from Leicester City this summer

Derby County have yet to meet Leicester City’s valuation of Daniel Iversen as talks between the two clubs continue.

According to Geoff Peters, the Rams are hoping to pay much less than the £1.5 million that the Premier League side are looking for.

Paul Warne previously worked with the 27-year-old during their time at Rotherham United, where the shot-stopper enjoyed a successful stint on loan.

The Dane is entering the final year of his contract, meaning Leicester will want to cash in this summer in order to avoid risking losing him for nothing in 2025.

Iversen spent the second half of last season on loan with Stoke City, where he made 18 appearances in the Championship (all stats from Fbref).

Derby’s Daniel Iversen pursuit

Warne is keen to bolster his goalkeeping options ahead of Derby’s return to the Championship this season.

The club gained promotion from League One with a second place finish, and have utilised the transfer window already to strengthen in other areas.

The Rams were previously linked with Mat Ryan, but a deal for the Australian is understood to not be close.

The pursuit of Iversen is still on the cards, but a compromise will be needed somewhere in order to find an agreement.

Leicester have set an asking price of £1.5 million, but the Derbyshire outfit are unwilling to match that fee for the moment.

Iversen is second choice for the Foxes, with Mads Hermansen set to be first-choice under new manager Steve Cooper in the Premier League this year.

Warne knows the Dane well, having managed him during the 2019-20 campaign with the Millers.

Iversen made 34 appearances in League One under the current Derby boss, keeping eight clean sheets and conceding 36 goals.

He helped the team gain promotion to the Championship, as they finished second in the table.

Derby County’s summer business so far

Derby have already been quite active in the transfer market as they prepare for life back in the Championship this season.

The Rams have added Ebou Adams, Kenzo Goudmijn, Ben Osborn, Corey Taylor-Blackett, Kayden Jackson and Jerry Yates to their first team squad.

The club have until 30 August to complete any remaining transfer activity ahead of their return to the second tier.

Derby’s opening league fixture sees them travel to face Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on 9 August, with the start of the new campaign right around the corner.

Iversen signing still not guaranteed

It has been reported that Derby have agreed a deal to sign Jacob Widell Zetterstrom, who could be an alternative target for Iversen.

If that deal goes through, then that may end any pursuit of the Leicester goalkeeper.

Iversen is available at a relatively low sum, but Derby must feel that it is not worth it given the length of time remaining on his contract.

If they are unable to find an agreement with Leicester, then they have acted quickly to move on to another option and secure an experienced shot-stopper to add to Warne’s side for next season.
