Frustrated Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand discussed his team’s poor displays and early exit from the World Cup at a sombre press conference. Hjulmand is expected to stay on as manager but was downcast by the 1-0 loss to Australia that saw his much-fancied team fail to make it out of Group D in Qatar, saying:

“It was a hard night and it was hard going back to the hotel, I didn’t sleep much last night. It was in every way a frustrating experience, both during and after the match. There are no excuses for how it went. We’re in a time where everything is black and white – it’s either success or resounding failure… There’s a lot to be learnt from what we have experienced at this World Cup and I’m absolutely sure that we will come back stronger. But, right now, it’s a huge disappointment but our early exit is in no way due to a lack of desire from the players or the staff.”
