Demi Stokes ruled out of England vs Northern Ireland through injury | OneFootball

Demi Stokes has been ruled out of England's final Euro 2022 group stage fixture against Northern Ireland after sustaining a minor knee injury, the FA have confirmed.

Stokes will follow an individual training programme to aid her preparation for England's quarter final clash next Wednesday.

The 30-year-old is yet to feature at Euro 2022, with Rachel Daly preferred at left back by Sarina Wiegman for England's opening two group fixtures.

Lotte Wubben-Moy is available once more for Friday evening's clash with Northern Ireland after missing England's victory over Norway due to Covid-19. The Arsenal defender rejoined the squad on Wednesday morning and participated in training.

England have won both of their opening two group fixtures, beating Austria 1-0 in front of a record crowd at Old Trafford, before registering an emphatic 8-0 win over Norway - the highest margin of victory in European Championship history.

The Lionesses' two victories means they have already secured qualification for the quarter finals, and are guaranteed to top the group due to their superior head to head record over Austria and Norway.

England's final group fixture against Northern Ireland at St Mary's on Friday evening is consequently a dead rubber, with Kenny Shiels' side's elimination from their maiden major tournament already confirmed after a pair of defeats in their opening two games.

England will know their quarter final opponent on Saturday evening when Spain face Denmark in a shootout for second spot in Group B.

England play their quarter final against either Spain or Denmark at Brighton's Amex Stadium - the same venue of their 8-0 demolition of Norway - on Wednesday evening.
