Just a few weeks ago, Ousmane Dembélé’s renewal at Barcelona seemed to be a done deal. The new manager had endorsed the Frenchman as a vital part of the team going forward, and Xavi’s words were expected to be a boost towards the new contract.

However, talks since have gone downhill on the contrary. The winger has not publicly stated his desire to leave, but his reluctance to pen a new deal speaks loud enough.

A big part of his change in heart is said to be because of his agent. Mousa Sissoko, the player’s representative, has actively been offering Dembele’s services to several clubs, especially in the Premier League. Now, the player seems to be convinced too.

According to reports from SPORT, the forward now wants to imitate his international teammate Kylian Mbappe. Dembele has rejected the proposal made by the club because he has better offers from foreign clubs.

With his contract expiring in June, the player is free to discuss terms with other clubs from January on. A deal with Barcelona looks increasingly unlikely as the club cannot meet his financial expectations.

Moreover, there are clubs willing to pay him as much as €20 million to run his contract down and join as a free agent. The mentioned bonus that they are willing to pay would be over and above the astronomical salary.

Newcastle United are the club willing to go all out for his signing. Manchester United are keeping tabs on the 24-year-old too and will try to secure a deal if he is available on a free transfer.
