Blues secured an immediate return to the Championship with victory over Peterborough on Tuesday night

Everybody associated with Birmingham City have been basking in the achievements of an immediate return to the Championship, which was sealed with a 2-1 victory over Peterborough United on Tuesday night.

First-half goals from Alfie May and Taylor Gardner-Hickman - the second of which was Blues' 100th of the season in all competitions - were enough for Chris Davies' side to secure a first-time promotion back to the second tier in the first of two encounters against Posh in the space of five days, with the second of those coming in the EFL Trophy final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Unsurprisingly, players and Bluenoses celebrated the success in unison for plenty of time after the full-time whistle at the Weston Homes Stadium, with a mass reaction across social media marking yet another momentous night in a remarkable season for the Second City outfit.

Ever since Knighthead Capital Management acquired the club from BSHL in the summer of 2023, the phrase "Birmingham. On The Rise Again," has become the main motto at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park, and it was coined once more by the club's official social media pages as Davies' side took their points total to 95 points from 40 games, with third-placed Wycombe Wanderers now out of sight.

This was also the club's first promotion since the summer of 2009, when Alex McLeish's outfit secured an immediate return of their own to the Premier League, finishing second in the Championship.

Despite a lengthy period of stagnation, mismanagement and financial uncertainty under previous ownership groups, those who previously donned the royal blue were delighted by their former club's success, as well as Phil Neumann, who will move to the West Midlands from 2.Bundesliga side Hannover 96 at the end of the season after agreeing a pre-contract deal in January.

Minority shareholder and NFL icon, Tom Brady, was also among those to congratulate Davies' record-breaking men, stating : "Proud of you Lads! Way to go Blues! Let’s keep it going!!!"

Former defensive duo Maxime Colin and Michael Morrison were also on hand to post messages of their own, with the French full-back posting "Well done guys 💙", whilst Morrison kept it plain and simple with "👏👏KRO."

Previous academy graduate and Premier League winner, Demarai Gray was alongside Neumann in the comments, whilst Alfie Chang, who is currently on loan with League Two promotion hopefuls Walsall, also congratulated his parent club on their success ahead of a crucial run-in for the Saddlers.

Meanwhile, iconic Birmingham band, UB40, who penned 'Forever True' in conjunction with the club and marked the renaming of St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park with an on-location concert last April, also posted: 💙💙💙 Congratulations lads! KRO Forever True 💙💙💙"

Birmingham City could be in further celebratory mood ahead of Wembley date

After approximately 4,000 supporters were in attendance in Cambridgeshire in midweek, 43,356 Blues fans will head to North London hoping to see their side complete a double-winning season and a third success in the EFL Trophy final, having won the competition in 1991 and 1995.

There could be even greater cause for celebration by then too, as if second-placed Wrexham fail to see off Wigan Athletic in North Wales on Saturday afternoon, the League One title will already be in Blues' hands ahead of the showpiece event.

It remains to be seen how Davies' side will fare on their return to the second tier next term, but the 40-year-old has achieved Knigthead's first ambition in a rebuild which, they hope, will see the club back in the Premier League in the short-term future.
