Dele Alli is set to be left out of the Tottenham squad to face Chelsea on Tuesday.
According to the Telegraph, the midfielder will not be selected for the fourth round EFL Cup tie.
Alli has fallen out of favour under José Mourinho and has not been included in the squad for either of Tottenham’s last two Premier League fixtures. However, he did play in the Europa League against Shkendija last week and an appearance in the EFL Cup was widely expected, especially after Mourinho admitted the competition is not his priority.
“I would like to fight for the Carabao but I don’t think I can,” the Portuguese told reporters on Monday.
“We have a game on Thursday that gives us not as much money as the Champions League, but the group phase of the Europa League gives us a certain amount that for a club like us is very important.”
But Alli is now set to miss out despite the competition being the least important in Mourinho’s eyes.
Alli has been linked with a loan move away from north London but that seems unlikely with less than a week until the transfer window closes.
