Delap in, Longman out: The dream start to Hull City's summer transfer window

Hull City are definitely facing up to a summer of change, after the shock dismissal of Liam Rosenior in the week.

There's no question that the 39-year-old would have already been thinking about plans to rebuild his squad, until chairman Acun Ilicali revealed there was a misalignment between the two parties, ultimately leaving them with no decision but to part ways.

No replacements have officially been mooted as of yet, so it makes for an interesting few weeks in East Yorkshire.

With that being said, here are two circumstances that would demonstrate a dream start to the upcoming summer window in HU3.

In: Liam Delap

This scenario has been clamoured for by supporters for quite some time, and Liam Delap himself also hasn't ruled out the possibility of making a return to the MKM Stadium after the conclusion of the regular second tier season.

"We'll just see what happens and, you know, there's conversations to be had," he recently told Hull Live.

Despite his previous struggles on loan at this level with Preston North End and Stoke City, it was clear from the get-go that the England U21 international would improve on those spells, which was partly down to Rosenior's exceptional man-management skills and his knowhow in nurturing future prospects.

In the first half of the campaign, he demonstrated great centre-forward play and versatility with his range of goals, as well as sometimes featuring on the right wing, before sustaining a three-month injury.

However, since his return, Delap picked up where he left off with a number of consistent performances and an instinctive finish against Ipswich Town, often being serenaded to extend his stay in East Yorkshire by the North Stand.

It would definitely be a dream scenario for all concerned, although reports from Alan Nixon suggest that a £10m fee may be needed to prize the centre-forward away from Manchester City in the coming months, with the transfer guru claiming that Pep Guardiola's side will sell Delap to the highest bidder.

There is a belief that if Delap was available all season, Hull could have easily made the play-offs, which could've made recent circumstances rather different. Can Ilicali persuade his next appointment into utilising his services once again?

Out: Ryan Longman

Similarly to Delap coming back, this move would see Ryan Longman, who has spent this season on loan at Millwall, make a swift return to South London after a somewhat productive campaign in a season of overall inconsistency for the Lions.

Overall, the Brighton and Hove Albion academy product registered three goals and two assists under three different managers - Gary Rowett, Joe Edwards and, latterly, Neil Harris.

The 23-year-old has definitely restored his confidence since Harris' return to the Den, which was showcased no better than scoring Millwall's Goal of the Season with a thunderous strike against eventual champions Leicester City on April 9th.

After his side secured a respectable 13th-place finish by defeating Swansea on the final day, Harris stated that Longman had already expressed his desire for a permanent move.

"Ryan Longman’s done excellently and I’m sure there’ll be a discussion. Ryan has made it very clear that he’d like to be here and he’s done excellently for me, so there will be some discussions to see if there’s anything possible there," he told Southwark News.

If that is to be the case, then Longman would depart the MKM Stadium after making 73 appearances for City, scoring on seven occasions.
