The FIGC, the Italian Football Association, will elect its new president on February 3rd, and Alessandro Del Piero is considering running for the position. Current president Gabriele Gravina is still on the fence. However, he should ultimately throw his hat in the ring again. He’s been at the helm since 2018, serving two consecutive terms. The candidacies need to be formalized by December 25th, La Repubblica informs.

The Juventus icon might make his announcement or at least address the situation later this week. He’s a pundit in Champions League games. He’s been approached by some Serie A sides. Claudio Lotito, who opposes the present head, might be the main mastermind behind the operation.

If Del Piero accepted, he’d have to be formally proposed by one of the voters: the footballers’ or the referees’ association or of the three leagues. Gravina is believed to have the support of the amateurs, the Serie C, part of the top division, the players, and the coaches, should he compete.

Pinturicchio would be keener on accepting if the whole football system rallied around him to bring something new rather than having to face a rival. He’d face an uphill climb if Gravina ran again.

In the meantime, the FIGC has approved the new transfer market window introduced by FIFA because of the new Club World Cup. It’ll be possible to sign new players for ten days at the beginning of June. Every team will be able to use it, not just Inter and Juventus that will take part in the competition.
