As clubs head out on their pre-season training camps, the ‘lofts’ are returning. The practice, the legality of which has been a source of contention previously, sees players frozen out of first-team training in a bid to force them out of the club. Whilst clubs can do this during the transfer window, it is forbidden to continue the practice beyond the end of the transfer window.
L’Équipe understands that Olympique Lyonnais have established a ‘loft’ ahead of their pre-season training camp in Austria as they look to decrease the size of their bloated squad. Lyon set off to Austria on Monday but not all of their players will make the trip.
Notably, Dejan Lovren, Sinaly Diomandé, Paul Akouokou, Amin Sarr and Florent Sanchez have all been left out of the trip and have been invited to find new clubs. Having made many of the loan moves completed in January permanent, and wanting to strengthen further ahead of their upcoming UEFA Europa League campaign, further sales are a necessity.
