Dejan Lovren and Anthony Lopes left out of Lyon’s Europa League squad

As expected, both Dejan Lovren and Anthony Lopes have been left out of Olympique Lyonnais’ squad for the league phase of the UEFA Europa League.

It had been anticipated that both Lovren and Lopes would be sold this summer. The former hasn’t played for Lyon since 26th January and he does not feature in Pierre Sage’s plans. However, offers for the Croatian centre-back were not forthcoming this summer. He therefore remains at the Groupama Stadium, however, he is not expected to play any part for OL this season, and now certainly not in the Europa League.

Lopes has also been left out. Like Lovren, he was touted for a departure from Lyon but it never came to pass. He has been replaced by Lucas Perri in goal, whilst Rémy Descamps has arrived as the No.2. Paul Akouokou also misses out on a place.

There was, however, space in the squad for Jordan Veretout, who was signed from arch-rivals Olympique de Marseille on Wednesday and – crucially – in time for him to be registered in Lyon’s Europa League squad.
