It is an open secret that FC Barcelona board directors have been forced to work under strenuous circumstances in recent years.

Managing a European powerhouse like Barcelona, with its financial constraints and intense political pressures, makes finding autonomy or moments of peace at the club an almost impossible task.

Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff decided to part ways with the club for similar reasons and recently talk of sporting director Deco also hitting the exit door had been doing the rounds.

Reportedly, the Portuguese’s minimal say over transfers and Joan Laporta’s resistance to landing his desired targets engendered a rift between both parties.

Deco’s heart is in Barcelona

However, quashing the rumours of any possible departures, Mundo Deportivo have come out to report that Deco remains deeply loyal to Joan Laporta.

In fact, the sporting director has expressed his commitment to staying in Barcelona for the entirety of the president’s tenure.

He is fully invested in supporting the club during this pivotal period and will remain a key figure in its operations until Laporta’s tenure comes to an end in 2026.

The Catalan giants have made a dominant start to the season under the guidance of Hansi Flick, with the impressive performances of new signing Dani Olmo offering a promising glimpse of the future.

Recognising the high ceiling of the team, Deco is unwilling to jump ship now with potential existing in abundance.

In addition to plying his trade at the club as a player, the 47-year-old was primarily appointed as Barcelona’s sporting director due to his strong relationship with Laporta when he was still an agent.

As such, despite the criticism directed at him and the challenging environment he must navigate, Deco’s departure at this time seems highly unlikely.
