With the 2024-25 season practically over, FC Barcelona can now start focusing on preparations for the next season and on the reinforcements they have to bring into the team in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Thus, the figure of Deco, the Blaugrana Sporting Director, will become an even more important one in the coming few months as he will be the one calling the shots in the market for his club.
The Portuguese official frequently appears in front of the media to talk about his and the Catalan club’s plans, and he did so once again today as he talked to a Spanish outlet.
As Mundo Deportivo has noted, one of the more notable parts of this interview was his comments on Barcelona’s plans to replace Robert Lewandowski and about the incorporation of a new winger.
Talking about a replacement for the Polish striker, Deco indicated the Blaugrana club might not go for a new player from the market:
“In the squad we have players like Ferran who can play there, we’ve played with Dani as a false nine. As of today, this squad has internal solutions for when Robert isn’t available.
Talking about a striker seems like we’re just looking for a replacement for Robert, but right now you have a team like Inter with a fixed ‘9’ in Thuram. PSG doesn’t have one, Arsenal doesn’t have one. Right now we do — Lewandowski — and there are players in the squad like Ferran who can play there and who has had a spectacular season.”

On the other hand, Deco identified two players that Barcelona likes for the left-wing position, and also revealed his own preference:
“We like Luis and we like Rashford, but we can’t talk about players who are under contract. For me, it’s much more important to improve what we have at home.”
