The Seattle Sounders have signed right-back Alex Roldan to a contract extension through the 2026 MLS season with a club option for the 2027 season. The 27 year old El Salvadorian International defender has really proven to be one of the better fullbacks in all of MLS over the last few seasons. Since his arrival to the club in 2018, Roldan has; won a CONCACAF Champions League, a MLS Cup, and been named a MLS All Star. He also has been able to be called into the El Salvador National Team, now with 20 caps.
Locking down Alex Roldan for the future is a smart move for the Sounders as they seem to be looking to shift into a new era in 2024. With guys like Nico Lodiero, Fredy Montero, Kellyn Rowe, and Heber gone from the roster a new “core” needs to lead the way into 2024 and beyond. Yes the Sounders still have veterans like Stefan Frei and Joao Paulo, but, a core consisting of Alex Roldan, Cristian Roldan, Jordan Morris, and Albert Rusnak will set the tone for this new logo’d version of the Seattle Sounders.
