Ligue 1 minnows Stade Brestois 29 remain on course during a historic Champions League campaign as the French side dispatched Austrian juggernaut RB Salzburg at Red Bull Arena.
A brace from Abdallah Sima was enough to see Brest secure six points from six in their first-ever European campaign, but further goals from Mahdi Camada and Mathias Pereira-Lage saw the Brittany-based side temporarily top the table.
But it was not just a simple three-point night for Éric Roy’s Pirates away from home, as they matched a sizeable Champions League feat.
According to Opta, Brest became the first French side other than giants Paris Saint Germain to win by four goals or more in the last 13 years.
While PSG have achieved that feat on 14 occasions, not since 2011 did another Ligue 1 side, Olympique Lyonnais, manage to secure such a dominant performance (7-1 over Dinamo Zagreb).
Despite currently sitting 13th in the domestic table after finishing 3rd in 2023-24, Brest continues to dream of booking passage into the knockout stages.
