Dean Henderson has reportedly been told he will start Manchester United’s Champions League group stage fixture against Istanbul Basaksehir on Tuesday night.

Henderson has only featured three times in all competitions for the Reds this season and speculation has been growing over a possible loan move in the January transfer window.

David de Gea has stepped up his performance levels as a result of increased competition, and Henderson may feel it is necessary to seek a temporary move to play regularly and avoid being left out of the England squad for this summer’s European Championships.

And according to The Sun, Bournemouth, Leeds United and Brighton are all exploring the possibility of signing the 23-year-old in loan.

But the Manchester Evening News report that Henderson expects to start against Istanbul Basaksehir at Old Trafford.

The MEN note that Solskjaer is already believed to have told the England international that he will be selected.

Henderson’s last outing came in the 2-1 defeat to the Turkish side earlier this month, but he couldn’t be blamed for either goal in a horrific showing.

There will no doubt be an element of frustration from Henderson that he is not playing regularly after an outstanding loan spell at Sheffield United last season.

But a start tomorrow would provide a welcome boost in a game Solskjaer’s side must win to remain in control of their group.
