De Zerbi ticks Liverpool’s boxes but Bayern Munich option more likely

Roberto De Zerbi is among the top candidates for the Bayern Munich job and even if English media feel the Italian tactician ‘ticks a lot of the main boxes’ for Liverpool, The Athletic claims RDZ is unlikely to take over at Anfield.

De Zerbi’s future at Brighton remains uncertain, as the ex-Sassuolo boss has refused to commit to the club long-term. The 44-year-old has said that reaching an agreement over a new contract won’t be a problem, but a new deal is “a small part” given that “the big part is the plan [for the future].”

According to Sky Sports Deutschland, RDZ is among the primary candidates to replace Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich in the summer. The other main option is Julian Naglesmann who, however, was sacked by the Bavarians in 2023.

New Bayern director Max Eberl has a high opinion of De Zerbi but is aware that the ex-Foggia boss has a release clause of €10m-€15m.

De Zerbi has also been linked with the Liverpool job and although Sky Sports senior reporter Melissa Reddy feels the Italian tactician “ticks a lot of the main boxes” for the Reds, The Athletic transfer expert David Ornstein reports that it’s “incredibly unlikely” that the Premier League giants will go for De Zerbi to replace Jurgen Klopp next season.
