According to reports in Italy, Bayern Munich have approached Brighton and Hove Albion coach Roberto De Zerbi, who was also linked with Milan.
The tactician has moved up the list of candidates for the Germans following setbacks in the race for Ralf Rangnick, who decided to remain as the coach of the Austria national team, and Xavi’s decision to continue at Barcelona.
Now Tuttomercatoweb claim that Bayern Munich have made a significant step towards De Zerbi by making contact with his entourage.
At the same time, De Zerbi attended an event with Brighton chiefs where he told fans that he will only remain if he is “happy” and feels “motivated” to keep improving.
Director Paul Barber responded by assuring he would bring De Zerbi a cappuccino to keep him happy every morning.
“I need more than cappuccino,” laughed the coach in response.
“I’m not working for the career. I’m working to wake up happy in the morning.
“If I will be happy in the future in Brighton, there isn’t one team who can bring me if I don’t want. But if I am not happy in the morning, if I don’t feel the motivation to work like last season – or this season as well, eh? – I can change because I am not able to give my best.
“I think if I am able to give my best, I can push the players. Otherwise it’s tough because I can’t change my face.
“If I don’t believe or I don’t feel something strong, something more than football, more than job, it’s tough for me.”
De Zerbi has also been linked with a return to Italy with Milan, though Napoli seem to be looking elsewhere.
