Rasmus Kristensen, reflecting on the team’s recent successes, highlighted the significant influence De Rossi has brought to the locker room.

“He brought personality, new ideas, his energy and his knowledge of Roma,” Kristensen remarked following a victorious match against Torino.

De Rossi’s leadership was palpable, drawing on his deep connection with the club to foster a strong, cohesive unit. “When you are in a big club you cannot exclude any objective,” Kristensen added, underscoring the ambitious goals De Rossi has set for the team.

Similarly, Diego Llorente praised De Rossi’s transition from a celebrated player to a promising coach.

Speaking before a European fixture, Llorente expressed confidence in De Rossi’s coaching, stating, “I obviously knew him as a player, but not as a coach. I like what he’s doing, he’s very good. The owners chose De Rossi and I think it is the right decision.”

The defenders’ comments reflect a trust in De Rossi’s capabilities to lead, rooted in his legendary status at the club and his innovative approach to management.

Daniele De Rossi’s affiliation with Roma began in his youth, setting the stage for a storied playing career that spanned nearly two decades. Making his professional debut in the 2001-02 season under Fabio Capello and his Serie A debut shortly thereafter, De Rossi quickly became a cornerstone for the club.

Over his 18 seasons with the Giallorossi, he became known not just for his tenacity and skill on the field but also for his leadership qualities, inheriting the captaincy in the 2017-18 season following the retirement of the iconic Francesco Totti.

During his illustrious playing career, De Rossi helped lead Roma to multiple Coppa Italia titles in 2007 and 2008 and the Supercoppa Italiana in 2007. He was named the Serie A Young Footballer of the Year in 2006 and later the Italian Footballer of the Year in 2009.

He also won the World Cup with Italy in 2006, his most important trophy as a footballer.

De Rossi’s leadership on the pitch was instrumental in guiding Roma to the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in the Champions League era during the 2017-18 season. By the time he left Roma at the end of the 2018-19 season, De Rossi had made 616 appearances, making him the club’s second-most capped player of all time, behind only Totti.

Transitioning to management, De Rossi was appointed as Roma’s head coach on January 16, 2024, following José Mourinho’s dismissal. His impact was felt immediately, with Roma notching several key victories under his guidance. Since his takeover, the team has secured points in all but two Serie A matches and achieved notable successes in the Europa League, including a significant victory over league rivals Milan in the quarter-finals.

They were eliminated by Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen in the semi-finals, but their journey in the competition was still impressive and inspired their positive results in Serie A.

Both Kristensen and Llorente’s comments not only affirm the positive changes that De Rossi has implemented but also highlight the respect he garners as both a former player and now as a coach. His leadership style, deeply rooted in his extensive playing career and intimate knowledge of the club’s ethos, continues to inspire and push Roma towards greater things.
