Former Roma midfielder and current Italian national team assistant coach Daniele De Rossi is a candidate for a head coaching vacancy in Serie A.

The 39 year-old has been linked with a host of clubs since his retirement in January of last year but he still remains on Roberto Mancini’s staff with the Azzurri—though this could change soon.

Both Sky Sport and La Gazzetta dello Sport report Sampdoria are considering appointing De Rossi as the replacement of the recently sacked Marco Giampaolo. The club reportedly has the Roman on their shortlist along with Claudio Ranieri, Roberto D’Aversa, Dejan Stankovic, and Aurelio Andreazzoli.

Through eight rounds, the Ligurian side currently sit bottom of the Serie A table with 0 win, 2 draws, and 6 losses.

The team has struggled on both ends of the pitch, conceding 16 goals and scoring only 4 goals so far this season.
