Daniele De Rossi did not cling to Maresca’s refereeing horror show as the main reason for Roma’s defeat Bologna last night.

Following the Giallorossi’s 3-1 defeat, De Rossi spoke to reporters about the importance of not letting such mistakes on the part of the match official influence the team’s interpretation of the match.

“I think that a strong team, if it’s true that they became nervous because of the referee, have only such an excuse in case a penalty is given against them or a player is unjustly thrown out of the game.”

“Maresca gave two soft yellow cards to start the game, but we must not let ourselves get nervous. Because then we had two chances with El Shaarawy and Paredes. Instead of scoring, we allowed them to score first – we allowed ourselves to be influenced by nervousness.”

“At first it bothered me, but it wasn’t the reason we lost. I think Maresca should have warned one of their players and not one of ours three minutes into the match.”
