Barcelona began the new year with an important 1-0 win away against Mallorca on Sunday.

Barça dominated from the first whistle and almost broke the deadlock twice through Luuk De Jong, who hit the post and then the bar in quick succession.
But the Dutchman would eventually get his and the visitors’ goal before half time when he rose highest to head home Óscar Mingueza’s cross.
Into the second half, Barça struggled to create any clear opportunities but Ilias Akhomach did force goalkeeper Manolo Reina into action after beating two defenders.
Mallorca pressed for an equaliser late on but their best chance fell to Jaume Costa who saw his close range volley brilliantly stopped by Marc André ter Stegen.
