Manchester United continue their excellent start to the Premier League season with a 2-1 victory over West Ham. It was a difficult game for the visitors who drew 1-1 with the Hammers in the first half, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a goal. They struggled to breach the opposition in the second half, but an unlikely goal from former West Ham star Jesse Lingard saw them score the winner late on, although it was David de Gea’s last-minute penalty save that secured all three points for the Red Devils.

Manchester United Player Ratings Vs West Ham

David de Gea: 8/10

OneFootball Videos

David de Gea emerged as the hero for Manchester United with an excellent last-minute save to deny Mark Nobel an equaliser. He was rather unfortunate to concede the first goal, which was a deflected effort on goal from Said Benrahma.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 7/10

Aaron Wan-Bissaka avoided making any errors this time around, after a horrid show in midweek. He remained composed in the defensive third, preventing the opposition from finding too much freedom out wide.

Raphael Varane: 7.5/10

Raphael Varane was unlucky as Benrahma’s effort deflected off him to find the back of the net. The former Real Madrid star, though, was a rock at the back for Man United, denying any kind of freedom for West Ham.

Harry Maguire: 6.5/10

Harry Maguire didn’t look particularly impressive as he looked lacklustre at times. Not enough leadership, especially during the closing stages of the game.

Luke Shaw: 7/10

Luke Shaw conceded the late penalty that could have given West Ham a late point. It was shoddy defending from the fullback who otherwise had a decent game providing support going forward.

Scott McTominay: 6.5/10

Scott McTominay wasn’t particularly domineering in the middle of the park. He looked nervy on the ball, at times, and it was certainly not the best of performances from the midfielder.

Fred: 6/10

Fred was once again a weak link in the Manchester United midfield. He didn’t provide enough quality in the middle of the park and allowed the opposition to make multiple turnovers.

Mason Greenwood: 6.5/10

Mason Greenwood was a threat for Manchester United but it wasn’t enough to make too much of an impact on the proceedings. He looked rather mute, especially after the restart.

Bruno Fernandes: 7/10

Bruno Fernandes produced the cross that led to Ronaldo’s equaliser in the first half.

Paul Pogba: 7/10

Paul Pogba has certainly enjoyed better games this season. But the Frenchman wasn’t completely useless, as he was a vital cog in Man United’s creative game and his combination play with Fernandes and Ronaldo was top-notch.

Cristiano Ronaldo: 7.5/10

Cristiano Ronaldo once again showcased his pedigree with a predatory goal in the first half. He had a frustrating second-half but was a constant threat for the opposition defence, nonetheless.

SUBSTITUTES

Jesse Lingard: 8/10

Jesse Lingard came during the final phase of the game, scoring from a stunning strike to seal the win for the visiting team. The ultimate redemption for the attacker, who was at fault for conceding the late winner against Young Boys in midweek.

Jadon Sancho: 6/10

Jadon Sancho didn’t make much of an impact after coming on late in the game.

Nemanja Matic: N/A

A late replacement for Fred. Did not play much to warrant any rating.
