D.C. United have signed attacking midfielder Gabriel Pirani on a permanent deal from Santos FC in Brazil. The 21 year old will be signing with D.C. via a U22 Initiative contract, occupying the only U22 Initiative spot on their roster. Pirani is a former Copa Libertadores and Campeonato Carioca champion during his time playing with Fluminense in Brazil. Pirani joined D.C. United last summer on a loan deal between Santos FC, now completing the full time move to the nation’s capital. The young attacker scored 1 goal in roughly 850 minutes for D.C. last year. In his career, Pirani has 9 goals and 5 assists in 121 career games between Santos FC, Fluminense FC, Cuiaba Esporte Clube, and D.C. United.
Pirani is the only true attacking midfielder currently on the D.C. United roster. Still with no manager, it is tough to determine how Pirani will factor into this club in 2024. Pirani joins a D.C. United midfield that also consists of Mateusz Klich, Jared Stroud, Russell Canouse, and Jeremy Garay.
