Bayern Munich and Dayot Upamecano are in discussions to extend the Frenchman’s contract beyond 2026 but the two parties are still far apart in their financial expectations, according to BILD.
Both Bayern and Upamecano are still very interested in extending their cooperation beyond next season, but the central-defender is also aware of what Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich – all of whom have signed recent extensions – are earning.
Upamecano also wants an exit clause in his contract and, per BILD, a quick agreement is currently not in sight. The France international has been one of Bayern’s best performers of late and has “gathered many arguments for a lucrative contract.”
The 26-year-old knows his worth and once Bayern Munich offer a suitable contract, “nothing stands in the way of an extension.” Speaking last month about Upamecano’s contract situation, Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund said: “Upa knows that we definitely want to extend his contract. We have had very good discussions with him. We would like to extend his contract with him soon.”
