Mayzee Davies says the football education she received in City’s Academy has perfectly prepared her for senior football.

The promising defender has put pen to paper on her first professional contract after progressing through our youth system.

It comes after the Wales international was a consistent figure in our matchday squads last year and a member of the team who played at the inaugural World Sevens Football Tournament.

With aspirations of breaking into the first-team, Davies explained that life in the Blues’ Academy has made her the player she is today.

“It’s amazing, obviously, it’s Manchester City. It’s one of the biggest clubs out there and I think it makes it extra special coming through the Academy,” she declared.

“I’ve grown up here, it’s made me the player I am today so it’s a really proud moment.

“I joined when I was 10. I learned the ‘City Way’ growing up and every year the more and more we went on the Club felt like home.

“It still feels like that now, I’ve learned so much and I’m so grateful for all the Academy staff I’ve worked with to help me get to this point. I’m just so happy to be here now.

“It’s made me the player I am today. I don’t really know anything else other than the City way.

“I’d say I’m a ball-playing centre-back because that’s the way I’ve been taught to play. Since I was 10 it was keep the ball on the floor, play passes through the lines.

“You kind of see that with each age group up to the first-team and I kind of watch Alex Greenwood play and she plays how I want to eventually.

“Hopefully I can get to somewhere near her level.”

Davies’ maiden professional contract follows fellow Academy graduates Gracie Prior, Codie Thomas and Lily Murphy all signing their first across the past 18 months.

The trio then went on to feature in City’s first-team last term, including important Champions League assignments.

And Davies says the Clubs’ faith in youth is a source of immense motivation.

She added: “It’s really good, it just shows what the Club is about – bringing us youth players through. It’s really nice because we’re quite close friends as well so it makes it extra special.

“Obviously seeing how Gracie broke through last year it’s quite inspiring really.”
