Torino have announced the hiring of Davide Nicola as their new first team coach.

After a torrid start to the season under Marco Giampaolo, he was sacked on Monday night with the club sitting in the relegation zone.

He has been replaced by Nicola, who was most recently in charge of Genoa last season, who he guided to safety.

That will be on the agenda again at the Granata, who have won just two of their 18 games so far this season.

The 47-year-old played for the club for one season in 2005/06 and scored a crucial goal in the play-off final against Mantova which secured Toro’s promotion.

A survival specialist, Nicola also secured a shock stay in the division for Crotone in 2016/17, thanks to picking up 20 points in their final nine games.
