Norwich have scored eight and conceded two in games against Preston North End and Coventry City.

Those results have moved Wagner’s side to 5th in the table as the club looks to compete for a play-off place.

While the top two are running away with things in the automatic promotion positions, the Norwich boss has warned their top six rivals that the best is yet to come from his squad.

The former Huddersfield Town coach is optimistic that big things await this side.

“This is something special,” said Wagner, via Pink Un.

“I had the feeling before these two games, where we had even less time together, that they already had shown they at least understood the majority of the idea, and that they really like to make it happen on the grass.

“This takes time.

“It will take more than a couple of weeks, even more than a couple of months.

“But how open minded they have been is excellent.

“Did I think we can win the first two games, with eight goals to two in our favour?

“No. I didn’t think about that.

“I didn’t have that in my head. I thought more about the performances.

“I hoped with this group we had the chance to show our potential and our quality.

“They’ve shown quality in the last three games.

“This is what excited me. This is why I signed the contract.

“I knew there was quality in this group.”

Norwich City were formed in 1902?

Real Fake

Norwich have been finding the back of the net with great regularity under Wagner, which was an issue under previous manager Dean Smith.

But there are still plenty of games left in the season and there is no doubt that there will be twists and turns between now and the beginning of the play-offs.

Up next for Norwich is the visit of league leaders Burnley on 4 February.

The Verdict

Norwich had really fallen by the wayside under Smith and looked the furthest thing from real promotion challengers.

But Wagner has brought an optimism back to the team and a positive spirit that has been evidenced on the pitch.

A record of eight goals for and two against from two games is the perfect start, but there will be bumps along the way.

The competition for a play-off place is fierce and Norwich will need to continue to adapt quickly to Wagner’s methods in order to stand a chance of a top six berth.
