David Silva’s heir? Man City’s newest signings’ shirt numbers finally revealed | OneFootball

The shirt numbers of Manchester City’s two summer signings so far – Nathan Ake and Ferran Torres – have been revealed.

Torres (20), will follow in the footsteps of his role model and former Valencia star David Silva and wear the number #21.

The decision to award the young Spaniard the number of the City legend reflects the similar career paths of the two midfielders, but must reflect a high confidence in the abilities and personality of Torres.

Ake (25), meanwhile, will take the #6. This number was notably worn by Joleon Lescott since the title-winning 2011/12 season, but has been vacant since 2017 when Fernando left the club.

On Instagram, Torres said: ‘Proud to take on the number 21 at Man City and follow in @21LVA footsteps. He is an icon for MCFC and a hero of mine’.

The real question, though, is what number will Lionel Messi wear at City?
